Objective: To strengthen national coordination of all efforts intended to respond to the climate crisis and integrate climate change into national strategic planning and implementation processes.
Description: Develop a climate change strategy, draft climate change policy and communication strategy, develop REDD and NAPA programmes develop guidelines for effective participation in key conferences, CDM projects, develop a profile of data sources and champion climate in the development of Zambia’s six national development plan.
Reversing Food Insecurity and Environmental Degradation (Conservation farming)

Objective: To increase food security , enable appropriate responses to emerging economic opportunities and encourage environmental regenetation and reforestration.
Description: The purpose of the project is to increase the number of smallholder farmers in 12 districts in Zambia that practice conservation farming and conservation agriculture
Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO) Phase II Scaling up across the Luangwa Valley

- Implementing Agency: Wildlife Conservation Society of Zambia (WCS)
Objective: To realise a healthy Luangwa Valley Ecosystem maintained by ecologically safe markets that sustain and integrate social, economic and environmental benefits for resource poor farmers in order to increase the resilience of rural people to the effects of climate change and globlal market pertubations.
Description: To implement a scalable business model that drives households to collectiveky and responsibly work together as a community to sustainably increase food income security through improved resource managemnt and farming practices that promote healthy ecosystem functions and improved conservation of renewable resources across the Luangwa Valley ecosystem. Also to provide a wekk developed institutional capacity programme by staff and local stakeholders to build broader applications of COMACO under existing national policy frameworks while dissemnating results best practices and lessons learnt for informing potential partners how to replicate the model elsewhere.

Upscaling Conservation Agriculture for Increased Productivity and Production among small scale farmers in Zambia.

Objective: To contribute to the Zambian Governments efforts towards an efficient competitive sustainable agricultural sector whilst securing a productive environment and well conserved natural resources for sustainable development.
Description: To increase the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MACO) and on farm facilitators to provide future extension support to conservation agriculture beneficiaries in the country.
The Agreement
UNREDD (Reducing Emissions From Deforestation and Forest Degradation) Scaling Conservation Agriculture for Increased Productivity and Production among small scale farmers in Zambia.
- Contract period: to be reflected in the joint national programme.
- Funding: Funds not yet released waiting for Zambia to submit a full joint national programme to be submitted to UN REDD global Team in October 2009. Some small start up activities being funded by FAO from UNDP.
- Implementing Agency: Ministry of Tourism Environment and Natural Resources.
Objective: To contribute to the Zambian Governments efforts to mitigate climate change.
Description: Financing for a readiness plan for REDD, policy review to meet the challenges for sustainable land and forest management, carbon stocks estimation, preparations for Copenhagen and emphasis on sustainable landuse management.
Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Climate Initiative

Objective: To build and strengthen the capacity of African countries to address adaptation and mitigation and discuss the inclusion of sustainable agriculture and land use practices, forestry biodiversity conservation and maintainance of environmental services in the post Kyoto climate regime.
Description: The project ensures that a comprehensive African led climate initiative aligned to the AU/AMCEN African road map is developed and implemented by the COMESA/AEC/SADC countries.

Objective: The loss of biodiversity in Kafue National Parks and surrounding Game Management Areas is reserved and sustainable tourism is developed.
Public Expenditure Management and Financial Accountability (PEMFA) Programme

Objective: To contribute to the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) in improving capacity to effectively and efficiently mobilise and utilise public resources (improve public expenditure management) and to strengthen overall financial accountability, as stated in the PEMFA Component of GRZ's Strategy Document for Public Sector Reforms that was approved by the Cabinet of GRZ in June 2004.
